On the night of the 1987 hurricane, Nicky leaves Mary. Tosker and Elaine, broken by the stock market crash, find comfort in each other.
1984: The miners' strike dominates both the country and the lives of the four friends.
As a new decade approaches, the friends are divided again. Nicky stands for Parliament, Tosker falls in love with the woman of his dreams and Geordie begins to deal in drugs.
The world has turned sour for the four friends. Geordie is in jail, while Tosker works in a sausage factory. Tosker and Mary’s marriage is a sham.
Geordie works in Barratt's porn empire, Nicky is a political activist - the reunion is disaster. Both are wanted by the police. Tosker is a businessman, Mary a local politician.
1967: Geordie flirts with danger in his affair with Barratt's mistress. Mary and Tosker's flat and marriage are both falling apart.
1966: While Harold Wilson and The Beatles rule England, everything has changed for the four from Newcastle.
1964: While Nicky decides he wants to change the world and Geordie heads for London, Mary and Tosker make a life changing mistake.
